Thankfulness
Our family can't even express or keep up with thanking everyone for their acts of kindness, thoughtfulness, and prayers. So please know they are appreciated at this difficult time. Prayers are the most important need for our family. A special thanks to my cousin Cyn; you have a wonderful gift of encouragement and faith. Jocelyn

2 Corinthians 1:3, 4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

2 Corinthians 9:14

And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

Dear Jocelyn,

You humble me - it is YOU who encourage and are faithful and challenge me to go deeper and ask God to take me places I don't yet know - to do more that is meaningful!

Guess this'll be out there for the world to see, but so what - I don't have your email address.

After my parents got divorced, ours was the only family at Calvin Christian that was in that state - some people and teachers didn't know what to do with us or how to relate. it was as though somehow we kids were bad seeds because of the choices of our parents. I felt protected by you and by Trudy, Wilma was always sweetness and Ron, my dear friend - whether you realized it or not - in many ways you - you kids - became a safe place for me. If my prayers in any way do that for you then I am just grateful for the opportunity!

I read today about the difference between the prayer of "God save me" and the one Jesus chose before the cross, "Father, be glorified." The author talked about how Peter's best intentions if answered as a prayer would have condemned us all, and Jesus' prayer at the darkest of times, redeemd us all.

God is glorified in your life 'Cous - over and over again, and the ripples continue in the lives of your family, and kids from Rose City kids, and in lives I'll never know about until all is revealed on THAT day.

I can't help but hate the stupid flying snake for this cancer in your body and for all the pain it has sent straight to the hearts of you and your family. But I also can't help but know that what was meant for evil God is using even now for good. You are a picture of what a life can be when willingly resting in the hands of God - and the snake's head is crushed once more beneath His heel.

Joel 2 talks about God returning all the years the locusts have eaten away. There WILL come a day!

Can I hang out with you for a couple hundred years when we all get to Heaven? We have a lot to catch up on! I figure in the scope of Eternity that's not too much time, really. (g)

I do love you and treasure the gift of you and keep you all in my prayers as constant as breathing.

Cyn

Jocelyn, you still have the same great smile, but it also seems peaceful. Or is that serenity?
Today we had our family Christmas, and our thoughts were with you. You and John are remembered and held up to God in prayer.
Love in Christ,

Mr. and Mrs. Langendoen,
My heart goes out to you and your family. I know what we went through when we found out that my dad had cancer. The word itself was scary. When my father went into surgery on October 19th two years ago, I wrote him and my uncle,(his only brother here in Canada who also ended up in the hospital from a heart attack) a poem that I would like to share with you and your family.

Trust the Lord

The Lord's Angel's are always near
To keep away our humanly fear
Our prayers are sent to heaven above
To blanket you with the abundance of love
We ask the Lord to send a healing hand
The whole community together has band
The Lord above, our prayers do hear
For with this power, you can feel us all near
In our lives we do our part
And " Trust the Lord with all our heart"
As brothers and sisters in Christ continue to pray
Asking the Lord to send a healing hand and our Love your way!
As the days go by, we'll do our part
And "Trust the Lord with all our heart"

We really don't understand how strong our prayers really are until they are for us. My Father went into surgery with peace. He felt the warmth and love from everyone and the Lord was with him. So now we do the same for you and your family. May you feel our prayers and Love.

With all my love and prayers,

Angela Devries

In your time zone it's already Christmas Eve - a little early here yet. It's hard to believe that the year has flown by so quickly, and still here we are...

Christmas. Almighty God humbling Himself in the person of His Son as a baby - a baby considered illigitimate, born in a barn (and every one of us has experienced the wonders of a barn!) to a mostly unaware world. A world so unaware that the angels eager to announce Him were sent to shepherds, huddling with sheep and freezing their patooties off out in the wilderness. But they were quiet and undistracted...ready to hear what God had for them...

(I read recently that very often the times before we hear from God are quiet - so much so that we wonder if He still speaks.)

And so God with us still abides with us - always Him coming to us. (I think we fool ourselves into thinking we go to Him - maybe it's just that we stop walking away or turning away from His pursuit that makes us think we went and found Him?) My prayer for you this Christmas is that the Christ, once held so closely by His mother (who stored all those things up in her knowing heart) let's you feel His arms now holding you even more closely. And the things stored up in His heart? His plans? I'm so glad He sees a future we can't even begin to fathom! His plans are very good and the story has really barely begun! The awe of angels, the touch of the hem of His garment, the wine and dance at the wedding, the children playing at His feet, the realization on the Road to Emmaus...the gift of the tangible presence of Jesus is my Christmas wish for you and yours.

And now to Him Who is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine, according to His excellent goodness...

With love,
Cyn
